The SB3 is a high static stability system, utilising a multi-column arrangement to increase the water plan area. This allows the system to be used in shallow water environments and allows topside mooring and riser connections, simplifying the design and installation of the facility.
The arrangement also provides very high dynamic stability (very low pitching motions) even in extreme metocean conditions, making it ideally suited as an offshore sub-station or hydrogen electrolysis node.
The SB3 maintains the principal of keeping equipment within an enclosed climate controlled environment and maximise use of the space below the waterline otherwise used as buoyancy. The use of separate columns gives more flexibility in their arrangement and allows different functionality in each column, maximising safety and integrity.
The SB3 can also be provided with 4 or 5 columns to give even greater stability and flexibility.
